ABOUT YEAST, IN BIBLE TIMES.
DEFINITION OF YEAST.
Yeast is a bacterial fungus or mold. It can be found on rotten oranges, lemons or bread. It is found in baking powder which is used for baking bread. Yeast has a sour taste. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament dispensations of the bible, yeast was used figuratively to symbolize sin or hypocrisy. The origin of yeast was Egypt. In Exodus 13:3,6,7, God instructed the Israelites not to eat anything containing yeast. In Luke 12: 1-3, Jesus Christ cautioned his disciples against the yeast (hypocrisy) of the Pharisees.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF YEAST.
1. It gives a false impression about someone or something.
2. It conceals someone's or something's real identity.
3. It deceives people.
4. It is infectious and contegeous in that, it can be passed from one individual to another within a very short time.
5. It craves for respect (the Pharisees) and recognition (Luke 11:43-53).
6. It withdraws one's heart away from God.
7. It seeks to perpetuate selfishness.
8. It is misleading and deceptive.
TODAY'S SIGNS OF YEAST/ HYPOCRISY.
1. Knowing the truth but not obeying it.
2. Living a self serving life - e.g desiring leadership because of love of position and control, but not because of serving others.
3. Reducing faith to rigid rules, making people worship their rules and regulations instead of worshiping God.
4. Portraying an outward conformity without inner reality. For instance, a person may tithe faithfully but be rude and arrogant to his or her coworkers or colleagues.
5. False teachings. We are living at a time in man's history and as well as church history when a very strong wave of apostasy/false teachings has developed deep roots in our society. We do not need to go far to search for false teachings. They are everywhere; in some churches, on some radio stations and in some television channels.
