GOD DETESTS YOUR ENEMIES
Goliath the Philistine strongman was a threat to all Israelites, the
chosen nation of the Living God. The philistine champion had a
chronic habit of asking the Israelites to present only one man who was daring, to fight with him (1 Samuel 17:8c). God saw David the
young shepherd, fully committed tending the few sheep of his father
Jesse (1 Samuel 16:11b). God’s power works in people who are fully committed to him. God spoke to Prophet Samuel to take a horn to go and anoint David (1Samuel 1b). God detests the people who have rejected and despise you. He also detests those who have been opposing you. Such people cannot hinder God from fulfilling His will in your life (Ephesians 5:17). When you are fully committed to God, He raises people to stand with you in your scarcity. David’s heart was fully committed. God’s oil (anointing oil) will be on the people whose hearts are fully committed to Him. David had a servant spirit. God does not desert those who live for Him, even though they may not be affluent. He will give us a horn of iron (power) to fight against our enemies (Micah 4:13).
GOD’S VISION
When God gives you a vision, opposition, discouragement and all
sorts of attacks against it are inevitable. Nevertheless, a true vision from God has to go through some if not all, of the realities
mentioned above. A true vision from God has to be tested before it
yields the required results.Joseph the son of Jacob had a true vision from God but he experienced very strong opposition from his parents and brothers as well.
GOD’S FAVOR IN YOUR LIFE
Trust God in everything you do. It doesn’t matter what your enemies have been planning against you. David experienced God’s victory. When God is on your side and you trust in Him, you don’t see defeat but only tangible victory (1Samuel 17: 45- 46). God will cause people to stand with you in your needs.
When God anoints you to serve Him while “King Saul” is still
around, there are problems and stiff opposition that come your way. David encountered similar adversities from King Saul (1Samuel 18: 28-29). God doesn’t anoint his people in an enemy free
atmosphere. David and Saul were contemporary kings but God
showed His favor to David. Saul attempted to kill David many times but it was impossible because Jonathan, King Saul’s son, used to disclose his father’s plans to David (1Samuuel 19: 1-2). When you are fully committed, God will prepare somebody to inform you about the plans of your enemies against you.
Your enemies will team up to destroy you, but one of them will be
used by God to disclose to you the conspiracy. Reuben stood with
Joseph when the rest of his brothers wanted to terminate the
latter’s life (Genesis 37: 21-22). Although some people may rise
against you, the Lord will send somebody to show you mercy and
comfort.
THINGS THAT WILL ACCOMPANY US (1 SAMUEL 1:9-16)
God will help us and we shall see great changes in our lives. Hannah the wife of Elkanah had a problem. She was barren and she ha prayed for a child relentlessly but all in vain. Hannah had something special, the rare quality of persistence. Our lives after the departure from this world will be determined by what we do down here on earth. The things that will accompany you after death will be more meaningful and powerful than the things of this present life. Dorcas was always doing good and
helping the poor. She became sick and died. However, her gooddeeds and the clothes that she made were remembered by the widows. Eventually, Peter prayed for her and she became alive again (Acts 9:36-4). Sometimes people may not prosper because the things they do don’t glorify God.
Hannah dedicated her so Samuel to the Lord even before he was born. It was until Hannah dedicated her son that God heard her prayers and he responded accordingly. Peninah was bitter and proud. She was a real rival and a constant bother t her co-wife Hannah.
The things of this world will pass with time, but people who surrender to God will not be ashamed. Hannah surrendered Samuel to God for kingly service. God denies some people important things because He knows that they may become troublesome and proud after receiving them. The Lord is looking for men and women who are ready to dedicate their things to Him.
SURRENDER TO GOD FULLY
If Jesus Christ comes now, is there anything that can accompany
you in heaven? Will you be able to stand up and say your prayers
and deeds will follow you after death? (Matt. 25:35-40). Surrender
to God fully if you want Him to bless you. Hannah surrendered her
unborn child Samuel, before she got him. God is looking for people who can surrender their money, property and tithes to Him before they realize good returns. Operate higher above the standards of the enemy and ordinary men. Even if you are barren financially, surrender to God fully and He will deal with
that antagonizing condition. It is time to move ahead. Surrender to God if you want your enemies to be conquered. There are some vows you need to make to God before He acts (1 Samuel 1: 11). Hannah experienced shame, abuse and grief from the people who were against her because of her barrenness.
Whatever we have given to God, the devil cannot retrieve it. You may be losing because you have not surrendered everything to God.
The Lord may be hesitating to act on your behalf because you have
not made a vow which can release hidden things for your future. Such things could be money, children and other forms of property.
DO NOT LEAVE GOD WITH ANY ALTERNATIVES
Things started happening to Hannah when she made a vow to God. There are people who will live miserably afterwards, because of
doing bad things in this life. God has given you opportunities to do
good things that may accompany you. Jesus Christ said a man’s
heart is where his treasure is (Matt. 6:21). May your plea and prayer to God be like the one of Hannah; God, if you release this to me, I will serve you with it. Leave God with no
alternatives just Hannah exactly did when she surrendered her unborn son to Him. Surrender your children, your husband, wife,
money, ministry and business to God even before you see them.
David the most powerful king of Israel, made a vow to God that he
would not sleep until he made a dwelling place for the Lord (Psalm
132:2). See your future and your enemies even before they come.
Hannah saw the shame she had experienced of being childless.
OBEDIENCE, DISOBEDIENCE AND THEIR CONSEQUENCES
DEFINITION OF OBEDIENCE
Obedience is an act or practice of submission to another’s rule or
will. Obedience is an act of submission or to compliance with a
superior person’s will.
OBEDIENCE IN BIBLICAL POINT OF VIEW
1. Obedience to God – Genesis 12: 1-2, 4; God’s Call to Abram.
The Lord told Abram to leave his country, relatives and his father’s
home to go to a land which he was to be shown. Abram started out
his journey as the Lord had told him.
THE CONSEQUENCES OF ABRAM’S OBEDIENCE TO GOD
God promised to bless him with many descendants.
WHEN OBEDIENCE TO MAN IS ALSO OBEDIENCE TO GOD
War against Edom (2 Chronicles 20:3-4, 23-24). Jehoshaphat the
king of Judah was frightened after getting a report that a large army
from Edom was planning to invade his territory. King Jehoshaphat prayed the Lord’s guidance. The king also gave orders for a national
fast to be observed throughout the country. The people obeyed and fasted. The Lord threw the invading armies into total panic. As a result, the armies ended up attacking and
destroying each other. Obedience of Judeans to their king was also
obedience to God and that made God fight for them (2 Chronicles
20:22).
WHEN DISOBEDIENCE TO MAN CAN BE OBEDIENCE TO GOD
King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon wanted Shadrach, Meshach and
Abednego to worship his gold statue. However, the three young men disobeyed the king’s orders and chose to obey the living God by not worshiping the king’s god. The king lost his temper and ordered his men to heat the furnace seven times hotter than usual.
The three young men were tied up and thrown into the furnace.
However, the king learnt a lesson that there was only one Supreme
God and he praised the Living God. The king approved the
disobedience of the three men for the sake of doing God’s will. The
king commanded all the nations that no one should speak
irrespectively about the Living God (Daniel 3:15).
Daniel’s colleagues became jealous of his good work of administering the empire. The jealous supervisors advised king Darius to sign an order preventing everybody from requesting anything from any god or from any man except from the king only, for thirty days.
Daniel disobeyed the king’s order and he knelt down and prayed to
God three times a day. The king gave orders for Daniel to be
arrested and thrown into the lions’ den. God sent an angel to shut
the mouths of the lions from devouring Daniel. The king learnt a
lesson that Daniel served the living God and commanded that
everyone throughout his empire should fear and respect the living
God (Daniel 6:4, 6-8, 10).
When the Apostles were given strict orders not to teach in the name of Jesus Christ, Peter and the other Apostles replied, “We must obey God, not men. We are witnesses to these things. We and the Holy Spirit, who is God’s gift to those who obey him.”
King Saul of Israel disobeyed God by sparing the life of King Agag of
Amalekites and not killing the best sheep, cattle, calves and lambs
(1Samuel 15:22-23). As a result, God rejected him completely asKing. Prophet Jonah disobeyed God by refusing to go to Nineveh
and preach against that great city.
DEFINITION OF DISOBEDIENCE
This is refusal to obey, or disregard to orders from a superior person, for instance, God, Master, Boss, Teacher, Parent, or a Pastor.
SOME COMMON WAYS THROUGH WHICH CHRISTIANS MAY
BECOME DISOBEDIENT TO GOD
In some families, children disobey their parents in different ways.
Some wives also disobey the orders of their husbands. God does not take any form of disobedience to superiors lightly. In secular
leadership, men and women may disobey the orders of local leaders.
At schools, colleges and other learning institutions, students
disobey teachers by; not doing their duties, failing to do their
assignments, speaking ill about the teachers, participating in
unnecessary and destructive activities like burning of school
property and going on strike.
Some employees think that they are not supposed to get orders
from superiors because; their superiors may not be qualified or
competent, the superiors may be younger in age; inciting other
employees to lose confidence in the superiors and go on strike,
instead of praying for them.
In churches, true Christians disobey God by; not observing the
procedures which have been laid down by the church administration, for instance, by failing to attend weekly fellowships, night vigils, prayer and fasting, not helping the church leaders.
Christians may also disobey God by not paying their taxes and other dues to the existing state authorities (Romans 13:1,5-
7). Jesus Christ our Lord and Savor, obeyed the temple authorities
by paying his temple tax (court drachma). Matthew 17:27.
True Christians should repent and pray to the living God in order to
be forgiven and delivered from any or some of the foregoing acts of
disobedience.
