LIFE’S FUTILITY
I am standing here in deep thoughts, actually contemplating the weird phenomena of life and its complexities. The oblivious issues of life weigh heavily upon me and I feel haunted by my concerted efforts to know the truth and meaning of life. Surely, as King
Solomon who was a genius wrote in the book of Ecclesiastes, life is
vanity. It is tantamount to chasing the wind. I want to be quite pragmatic and precise as I approach and deal with the issues of this present and meaningless life. I am tired and fed up with illusions and vain ideas and basic principles about the affairs of life. I get amused when I see the endless efforts that men make in different spheres of the world’s activities, struggling tirelessly to make the ends meet. Congratulations my friend. You have actually tried to rise up very early in the morning for the last few years after you acquired your training. Yes, you have been very diligent in terms of your unreserved service to mankind. At least you can stand up to be counted in the midst of the people who have shown clear signs of real toil and rare determination.
Your efforts and performance have not escaped the eyes of the
beholders. You are a real work maniac. We admire and envy you
because of your exceptional zeal. Many of us who were your
contemporaries during our college and university days, cannot
measure to your standard. You are a classic example of an unstoppable achiever. Your achievements and fame have been well spoken of and as a result, you have won and commanded exceptional public applause.
Your posh lifestyle is irrefutable and noticeable. Some of us don’t
have any achievement to cling on, even though we were brighter
than you by far, during our school and college days. I still want to concur with King Solomon the genius when he said that; the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all. This life which treats some of us so unfairly is deceptive and unpredictable.
THE AFFLUENT CLASS
I am one of the many people around here, who feels and believes
that life has shortchanged my destiny. But there isn’t much that I
can do to change my current social status. The advantaged class in
our society has a lot of tangible influence in almost every sector.
They can be listened to and they can also make things happen
because they have wielded upon themselves immense power, be it
in political, economic, social or in academic brackets. These are the
people who have really climbed up the ladder of success and they
are now at the apex of ideal life.
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, let’s stand up in awe and clap our
hands for these achievers who were once our classmates and
although they never scored better grades than us, they are now the
role models of our society. Behold, they are now at the pinnacle of the life we all yearned for. They are now the spokesmen of the masses.
They hold very powerful political positions. They are indispensable
technocrats of our nation’s economy and education system. Nobody can refute whatever they say. They have the power to make and unmake. They drive very sleek and expensive cars. They feast on
special delicacies in classic restaurants. They can afford to fly out and in of the country any time at their own volition. They have established international business networks which generate a lot of money in a span of a few hours. These ladies and gentlemen are so powerful that even when they break the law of thevland, nothing can be done to them. In other words, they are above the law or the untouchables of our society. They have been intoxicated with enormous power such that even
when they receive a court of law summons to appear before a judge,
they categorically defy the orders and no apparent legal measures
can be taken against them. Surely and indeed, power is intoxicating
and enjoyable. It makes an individual live in a world of fantasy, unlike the life which the common man lives. Frankly speaking, the common man who is underprivileged and the underdog of the society is the victim of time and circumstances. He has no choice and nowhere to run toor hide. He can be misused. He can be manipulated. He can be
exploited. He can be arrested and prosecuted any time and be convicted of crimes which sometimes he has not committed. And since he cannot afford to hire an advocate to argue his case for him, his case becomes easy to handle and in most cases his verdict takes a few days to determine.
THE CORRUPT SOCIETY
I have seen people become millionaires overnight. People who were once ordinary public servants experiencing hand to mouth lifestyles have become stars in our cities, not because they have worked very hard to deserve the wealth they now enjoy, but it is purely through dubious means.
Collusion and corruption have become the orders of the day and
our society doesn’t maintain a hard stance in condemning them.
Transparency and accountability in dealing with public coffers are only things of the past and anyone who tries to be a defender of these virtues is regarded as a lunatic who is attempting to exhume the body of a dead person from its grave. I am now at the crossroads of indecision.
DEEP THINKERS
I do not know which way to go. I do not know what to do. I am completely perplexed. My society does not condone genuine critics
and deep thinkers who raise sincere alarms when they see things going through the wrong direction. I have seen intelligent men and women who have the full potential and exceptional brains which can be utilized to bring back our ruined economy back to its track. I have seen geniuses in our society who have immeasurable and bright ideas which can be employed to take back our derailed
education sector to its proper state and lifeline. Unfortunately, such
people have been despised, downtrodden and disregarded just
because they do not belong to the opulent class of our society which
mainly classifies people in terms of what one has or owns physically.
This is a very unfortunate trend of ranking people’s potential on the
basis of their physical appearance or achievement, instead of the
latent abilities which can be identified and exploited to bring
promising and long lasting solutions, to the numerous challenges which have plagued our country.
DESPISED AND IGNORED
No wonder, even in the Bible, in the book of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon foresaw and spoke about the way intelligent but poor people are despised and ignored. King Solomon said- There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great siege works around it. Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man. Our churches have been invaded by men and women who claim to have been called by God to serve him. The so called servants of God give us the first positive impression that they are true servants of the living God who are only determined to serve God without divided attention. As time goes by, all the concealed motives of such servants start manifesting themselves openly and gradually. Before long, greed and double standards of godliness and worldliness start manifesting themselves evidently. If only we can get people who are sincere and honest in our society who are willing to serve devotedly and transparently in any sphere where they have been called to serve, then our nation can be in a stable and prosperous state.
