DISTURBING ISSUES
I am now thinking of summoning all the members of my imaginary
mastermind group to attend an impromptu meeting within the next
few minutes. I have some disturbing issues which need to be
addressed and resolved, on a serious note. I intend to attend this
meeting in an incognito style so that the members will be free to
speak their minds out. I want to ensure that every member of the
meeting feels relaxed and free to give their maximum contribution
during the meeting. I am ready to listen to constructive ideas from
you members, as I chair this meeting. I know that all of you have sober minds and bright ideas which can go a long way towards helping me to understand and know the
hidden perplexities of my life. Okay now, ladies and gentlemen, I welcome all of you to our tonight’s crucial meeting. The deliberations during our meeting will be treated with utmost sincerity and confidence. Alright now, Mr. Kawenzelele, I know you are a sharp thinker and someone I can count on when it comes to serious matters of life affecting individuals of different ages and classes. In many of the meetings which we have held in the past, I have sincerely taken pride in you because of your healthy and helpful
contributions. Now, tell me what we can do about our young generation. Their state of being jobless and their degrading lifestyles have become a matter of grave concern. What can we do in order to snatch the young boys and girls who are languishing in joblessness, poverty and immorality?
“Mr. Chairman Sir, what you have just said is true as far as our youths are concerned. You see, some of them have gone to school up to primary level and due to the state of poverty which has ravaged their family backgrounds they have been forced by circumstances to drop out of school prematurely. The biggest problem which has ejected them out of school is mainly financial constraints. Mr. Chairman, the other class of the youths consists of those who have had opportunities of pursuing their education up to high school level but due to the same problem of meager finances, their parents have not been able to support
them fully to complete their secondary school education.
Of course some of the students have dropped out of school while
they are in Form One, Two, Three and Four before they even go
through the entire four years course to do their final exam. There
are others who have been fortunate enough and have proceeded to
universities.
INEVITABLE CIRCUMSTANCES
Unfortunately, they have pursued degree courses which they had
no interest in, from the word go. As a result, once they graduate,
they do not get employed due to incompetence or the marketability
of their degrees. Others have terminated their education due to the same problem of lack of funds from government coffers. In a nutshell, all of the above mentioned classes and those who fall in other unmentioned categories have fallen victims of societal adversity. At the end of the day, all the above phenomena culminate in a hopeless and a pathetic generation of frustrated young people. As a matter of fact, our young generation has therefore been
forced by inevitable circumstances to engage themselves in various
malpractices which are detrimental to their health and lives. Mr. Chairman, in this regard, let me now direct my attention to the
governments of the day in relation to the young generation’s plight. It is true and quite evident in one way or another, that the county
governments and the national governments cannot be excluded
from the clear picture of our youths’ predicament and joblessness which has driven them to the undesirable chambers of
unprecedented social evils. The governments in question have a vital role to play in terms of
assisting our young generation in order to realize the latent potential which can usher them to a state of being reliable and productive economically. The biggest monster so far which has made these governments to close their eyes to the youths’ suffering is extreme corruption in almost every government department. As a result, the finances which should be directed to fund youth projects for self sustainability have been siphoned and diverted to either unknown or undeserving quarters. Mr. Chairman Sir, I wouldlike to remind you that many of the governments of the world are
formed through politics. Incidentally, there are mainly three tactics that must be employed by any incumbent government if it wants to remain in power. The first tactic is, lying. The second one is, stealing. The final tactic for survival is, killing. Political assassinations for a sitting government at any one given time or another, is indispensable. So you see where the problem is. Our young generation and our nations do not experience dire poverty due to lack of vital resources. God has blessed our country with abundant essential resources which can bring a lot of wealth and ease the populace’s economic crunch which is degenerating very fast to an alarming degree. In order to curb this menace of chronic corruption which has adversely ruined our country and created an image of bad reputation, the governments should painfully constitute
commissions to fight against the existing practices of corruption
and any other mushrooming vestiges of such a vice. Such commissions should only be managed by men and women of
good reputation whose past track records in dealing with public
affairs are clean. In the recent past, some national governments have established commissions of inquiry and combat against imminent graft. Believe it or not, many of the chairpersons and their fellow
commissioners have only served for short terms and exited their
offices unceremoniously because of attempting to net some big fishes which are presumably untouchable. Politicians have played active key roles in identifying and proposing qualified men and women to be given the prominent assignment of hunting down the thieves of white color crime, are also the same lot of conspirators who team up in the National Assembly to pass votes of no confidence to the competent teams they have hired. The main reason why the anti-graft personnel have been shown the door many a time is due to the fact that some of the evil scandals which they find themselves dealing with involve many of the legislators. Ours is a man eat man society. Nobody cares about the conservation or preservation of the national resources. People are on their heels nurturing their insatiable clamor for material gain at the expense of the common man’s welfare. The slogan of the day is,
You either eat or else you will be eaten.” You have to choose one between the two options. Reports of efficient and hardworking men who have died due to high blood pressure after being sacked as a result of the mounting pressure from the politicians, have reached us. Surely and indeed, Mr. Chairperson our nation is sick. The economy is ailing. Who can heal the state of our Country? Our youths have despaired and they have resorted to malpractices which have reduced them to a state of shame and depravity. The general public is watching helplessly, the young generation as it sinks deeper and deeper in the mire of hopelessness. Does anyone care really? Does anyone have the youths’ welfare in his heart? Just look around and you will see many young people depicting signs of frustration and self denial. When I walk around in our towns, I see clusters of young men and women busy destroying themselves with drugs and total indulgence in immorality. Where are the youth councilors? What has gone wrong? One expects that the youth councilors should be actively involved in guiding and counseling the youths towards good moral standards. The parents still have their part to play in admonishing the young generation. The clergy should also be apt in sharpening the youths’ spiritual and physical lives. Our governments at all levels should provide adequate funds to initiate income generating programs. Mr. Chairman, with all the due respect that I have for you and your entire mastermind group which consists of experts in different fields of life, I beg to leave the floor for somebody else of your own choice to shed some light towards some of your disturbing issues.”
